Located about 10 miles from the city of Santa Fe, we're less than half an hour to the Pecos River and about an hour to the Jemez Mountains. The Albuquerque Airport is 70 miles, or about an hour's drive. There are shops about a mile away (grocery, restaurants, pharmacy, post office): we recommend that you have your own transportation. You will have sunset views of the Jemez Mountains and south Santa Fe.
OUR HOME:
Our home is a large adobe built around a center courtyard, very light with many windows and skylights. It is a very peaceful place, with wonderful places to relax...or work remotely. There is cable TV and internet access, a fairly large open kitchen, a private courtyard, and lots of books to read. Our home is about 7000 ft elevation, in the hills, surrounded by pinon and juniper trees and native plants, and lots of open sky, expansive views in the day, dark skies and stars at night!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
You have one dog to care for while we are gone. Chaco is a shelter dog (maybe corgi/cattle dog mix?) who shares the house and fenced courtyard with us. He is 14-years old, somewhat shy around strangers and we ask that you give him time to get to know you. He is slowing down, no longer takes walks around the neighborhood, but would enjoy being outdoors with you in the courtyard for short periods of time. He should not be left alone for longer than 5-6 hours. --- Our landscaping is xeric, and there is no need for outside watering.
We have a house cleaner who comes on Saturday: she is very professional and works independently. If you prefer not to have her visit, please let us know (we will pay her anyway).
WINTER IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO
Winter in northern New Mexico is a good time for you to visit art/studio galleries, to enjoy our museums and parks and great restaurants, to enjoy the music and events, and to tour the city of Santa Fe. There will be a number of events in town celebrating the winter holidays. You may have some beautiful snow while you are here: they usually dissipate by the afternoon. You can enjoy a blazing fire with pinon pine and enjoy the winter view!
Good neighbors are available to help or answer questions, and we'll be reachable while we're gone.
SCHEDULE FOR YOUR VISIT
We ask that you arrive a day or so before we leave, and because we leave the day after Thanksgiving, we ask that you come and join us for Thanksgiving dinner and a chance to meet our neighbors. This will give us time to show you around and hopefully help you avoid some of the holiday traffic.
We will return on December 22nd. If you want to leave a bit later (check with us on the time frame), we invite you to stay with us -- this may give you free days to go out and explore the area -- please let us know what works for you.
We prefer non-smokers, and you will need your own car.
