My partner and I are traveling for two weeks and are looking for a dog sitter for our adorable 5yo terrier/spaniel rescue, Daikon.
About Daikon
Around us, Daikon is incredibly affectionate, playful, cuddly, and relaxed. He just wants to cuddle on the couch next to someone and get an eternity of pats! And treats have never hurt either.
However, since he was rescued from a traumatic situation just a year ago, he does suffer some anxiety when he is without the two of us. He doesn't bark or whine because of it, but he gets defensive of the house and our belongings (oddly enough, just our shoes) and has historically been difficult to walk without one of present (doesn't trust strangers to take him out of the house). He has warmed to a handful of people who can walk him, so it is doable! Just takes the right people and some time/patience/love. He is also affectionate with all people, but sometimes dog-aggressive, so it is best to keep him close when other dogs are passing by (including the dog that lives on our floor)!
We are definitely looking for someone who has experience with rescue dogs with behavioral issues, who will have the patience to work with him and make him comfortable. We would hope for someone who could arrive a day or two early (we have a spare mattress) so that they can get acquainted with Daikon and vice versa :)
About the apartment
Our 1br unit is spacious for NYC (700sqft), with in-unit laundry, dishwasher, gas stove, and a deep bathtub. We have everything needed for comfortable city living (fast WiFi, Google Assistant, large TV with Netflix/Chromecast/Prime).
We live in a safe doorman), modern apartment building with plenty of amenities! It has an outdoor pool w/ tanning chairs and comfy couches, BBQ area with free grills and picnic tables, a small but clean gym, and a rooftop lounge with indoor and outdoor seating and a pool table.
About the area
We live in an area called Long Island City. There are a handful of excellent restaurants (pizza, thai, bbq, ramen, burgers) within a 10 min walk, but it is not especially dense / happening near us. There are some pretty great neighborhoods min walks from our place (south is the heart of LIC, north is Astoria). It is however within a 5 min walk of 7- 8 subway lines, so it's incredibly convenient to get almost anywhere in the city.
