Experience Costa Rica while living in a small town on a beautiful lake and care for two cats.
The house has one bedroom, small bathroom, large living room, kitchen and extra room that I use for yoga and meditation. There is a large front patio, that is covered and has built in grill. There is space outside I use as a studio.
It is a typical “Tico” ( Costa Rican) style house. It has lots of light but stays cool. It is comfortable, but basic, no dishwasher here. My internet is stable and I can stream movies. There is a washer and dryer ( mostly hang clothes up to dry).
The house is only a short 5 minute walk to the public entrance to the lake. Wildlife; including birds, monkeys and other creatures inhabit the undeveloped area between the house and the lake. On a clear day from the front porch you can see Arenal volcano in the distance.
Nuevo Arenal is a friendly town with a good mix of ex pats ( mostly US citizens and Canadians) and locals.
There is one main street with two grocery stores, two hardware stores and small shops plus a gas station. It has all the basics. The local Banco National has a 24 hr cash machine.
Arenal has lots of “sodas” ( small Costa Rican family restaurants) as well as two good Italian retaurants.
The walk to town involves hills By any route. It takes me about 15 minutes. Cabs are available and cost about $3. Local buses connect to nearby towns.
There are two cats; Mishka and Will. I adopted Mishka as a kitten and she is about 8 months old, I keep her in the house. Will is an on off visitor and lives outside.
You will enjoy your time here more if you can understand and speak some Spanish.
