Hi there! We are looking for a non-smoking single or couple to care for our 2 older dogs in our home in Whitehorse, Yukon, for 5-7 days from Dec 20-24th or Dec 20-26th, 2023. Later departures may be accommodated as well.
This is a pretty calm gig because these are seniors. No need for big play sessions or long walks to run off energy. Best for someone who is gentle and comfortable with senior dogs.
Our dogs are a medium-sized mixed breed male, and an old-but-lively and adorable Jack Russell Terrier female. They are older and slower but not down and out just yet, although they sleep a lot. They love people and are pretty easy-going. Doomie is VERY lovey-dovey, loves being petted and getting treats, and is partly deaf and missing one eye. Casey alternates between sticking close to people, wandering around like a land-shark, and sleeping - a lot. It is hard to resist snuggling her.
We are looking for petsitters who would be at home at least part of the daytime or evening. Short 10-15min leashed walks in our neighbourhood (weather-dependent) are a bonus but not a requirement (no off-leash). Feeding is once a day in the morning, consisting of a whole food/raw meat diet, so petsitters must be okay with that. There are meds to administer but they are easy (oral liquid) and the dogs are excellent with them. We have a fenced backyard and they love to spend time outside when you are home. They stay inside when no one is home. They are not friendly with other dogs and cannot go to off-leash areas.
Our home is a two-storey house on a quiet street with a private treed and fenced yard, backing onto a greenbelt forest. Whitehorse is the best of both worlds: it has a small community feel but every amenity that you would need. And of course it is a winter wonderland! There are forested trails everywhere in town for you to adventure (including right by the house), and a million places to visit on day trips for hiking, snowshoeing, and photography. We have bicycles available, and can discuss the use of a vehicle. There is a firepit in the backyard and wonderful neighbours. Inside we have wifi, TV and movie access. Don't forget our midnight sun in the summer and if you are diligent and lucky in the winter: the northern lights!
