I live in an historic home built in 1900 and located in the neighborhood Jackson Ward close to downtown and VCU's main campus. It is within walking distance to the university, the Fan District & Downtown. Many cafes, bars & great restaurants are within a 5-minute walk. All other parts of the city are within a quick 5-15 minute drive. A PULSE express bus stop is 2 blocks away and there are bike rentals at the park on my block. The house itself is 3 bedroom, 1.5 baths and very well-kept and decorated in a historical-meets-modern style. One recent guest described it "like a museum" but it's a little more homey than that :)

Aside from having someone at the house, my main priority is the care of my three sweet pets - 2 dogs and 1 cat. They are very lovable and would appreciate someone to stay with them who doesn't mind sharing a king size bed and giving out frequent pets and cuddles. I am really looking for someone who understands what it means to be your dogs' friend - someone who doesn't mind the pups being close when you are at the house, sitting on the sofa with you and sleeping in their own space on the bed at night. My dogs like the reassurances of cuddles and pets, and they really want a sitter who can take them for a walk once a day and won't leave them alone for long hours at a time. I usually work from home, so they are used to me being around, and when I have to work outside of the home, I'm gone for no more than 6 hours. They need 3-4 outside breaks to relieve themselves throughout the day. The cat does her own thing most of the time, but she will let you know if/when she wants attention ;) They all receive 2 feedings a day - one in the morning and one in the evening. They are not on any regular medication that would have to be given while I'm gone.

I have a few potted plants on the back porch that would need to be watered 2 times while I'm gone. I also have a few guests scheduled for stays in the guest rooms. The way I've scheduled these guests should not require any extra work on your part, but just know there will be other people at the house from time to time while you're here.

More about the house & Richmond....

The house is a great space for artists and writers who need some quiet time and like having both indoor and outdoor options for working. I do my work in the dining room area where there is a large table, access to the TV and tons of natural light coming in from the dining room and living room windows. There is also a comfy space with chairs and a small table on the back patio if you'd prefer to work outside.  The living room has a large sectional with pillows and throw blankets, too. My master bedroom with a king-sized bed would be your sleeping quarters so that the dogs' routine is similar to when I am home.

Richmond has a ton to do outdoors when the weather is nice - Belle Isle for trail walks/hiking, rock climbing and sunbathing on the rocks along the James River; the Buttermilk Trail for those who are wanting a 6-mile trail for hiking or running; bike lanes throughout most of the city; kayaking at Hugenot Flats; white water rafting through downtown for the aventurous; a great Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings - South of the James Market; more hiking trails at Pony Pastures; quirky shops and boutiques along Cary Street in Carytown; brewery mecca in Scotts Addition - 7 minutes from my house - with lots of outdoor patio space; amazing food in many different neighborhoods; live music options at The National, Broadberry and Camel (to name a few); the VMFA - excellent museum with regular music and wine/happy hour events - next door to other museums in what is called the "Museum District"; 15 minute drive to the airport; wineries within a 30 minutes drive as well as State Parks and more hiking options. The Monument Avenue 10K is taking place on April 13th - always a good time, even for those who are not necessarily runners. I'm sure there are other events going on, too, with it being Spring - check out Brown Island events and consider picking up an InStyle weekly newspaper that publishes various events around town!
