We are looking for a mature person or couple to house and dog sit this spring. We have two Portuguese Water Dogs, ages 2 and 3. A member of the working breed, our dogs are quite athletic and need 30-minute walking twice daily as well as turnout into our fenced back yard, though we do not leave them out when we’re away from the house. They are both in good health and have no special requirements other than consistent exercise and attention.
As active and recent retirees, we selected Santa Barbara for its temperate climate and its many outdoor amenities including hiking, biking, sailing and horseback riding. The beach, marina and downtown Santa Barbara are about 10 minutes away by car. None is within walking distance of the house so you will need your own transportation to get around though Santa Barbara is very bike friendly with many bike lanes and bike paths.
Ours is a very safe neighborhood. We renovated our 1-story 3-bedroom house prior to relocating here. We enjoy morning coffee on the patio while we take in the beautiful mountain views, and again in the evening over a glass of wine—though there are occasional “sundowner” winds. Our cleaning service comes every other week, and yard maintenance comes every week. The house has no special quirks.
