My name is Karl, I live and work in Munich, Germany. About twenty-five years ago I bought a property of about 25 acres in La Suiza, Costa Rica. I have called my property Finca Pura Vida. Every year, I spend up to six weeks at Finca Pura Vida. The rest of the time, two of the three houses at Finca Pura Vida are rented out to tourists.
Finca Pura Vida is situated in the middle of lush mountains and rainforest in the idyllic valley of the Armado River. The nearest village, La Suiza, is approximately 1.5 km away – far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet of unspoilt nature but close enough to meet your daily requirements even without having to use the car. The ten hectare ground of Finca Pura Vida offers ample space to swim in the river, to take walks, to sunbathe or to simply relax.
A few weeks ago my property manager Joaquin, who was a soul of a man and took care of the whole property, passed away. Therefore I am now looking for somebody else to look after my property and welcome my guests while I am not there myself.
There are two vacation homes which I rent out to tourists. The rentals are not regular, there are about ten parties in each of the two houses each year. The main season for tourists is November to March. The guests are from all over the wolrd and mainly speak English.
Additionally, there is a third house which will be the home of the home sitter. It is situated at the entrance of the Finca and overlooks the finca as well as La Suiza, the village nearby.
What to do?
First of all, the housesitter will need to welcome my guests. They stay in the houses for periods from one week up to three months. The house sitter would need to give the guests the keys to the house and explain everything to them (how to use the cooker, how to use the shower, where to get rid of the rubbish etc.) and simply be available for the guests should they need anything or have any questions.
Secondly, the house sitter would need to manage the cleaning lady. She comes by to clean the houses before new guests arrive and she also changes and washes the bed linen and towels. Should the house sitter be interested in earning some extra money, the cleaning and washing could become part of the deal.
I would also expect the house sitter to look after the property, i.e. keep an eye on everything and manage the gardener or repairs and maintenance if necessary. Possibly, the house sitter is a handy man / woman him / herself, so that he / she can take over little repairs. This, of course, would be paid for.
