What am I looking for in a house sitter?

We are looking for house sitters:

16th September to 23rd October, 2024

We might expand the dates for the period of 30th October to around the 17th of November. If you can do just part 1 that's fine, no problem.

If you are interested, do contact us.

The house is just outside Uzer, a small village (department 65) in the foothills of the High Pyrenees mountains, our house has very comfortable accommodation.

Uzer is about minutes from the largest French Pyrenees Ski Station Le Mongie/Bareges, which will be closed but is worth a visit as it has the iconic "Col de Tourmalet", which is included in the Tour de France each year. It's a spectacular part of the High Pyrenees with the Pic du Midi(2877m) accessible by Telecabin all year round.

Uzer to Tarbes or Lourdes is about 30 minutes. Bagneres de Bigorre is our nearest town (7 mins) with all the shops and supermarkets. There is a very good market on Saturday mornings and a Market Hall, which is open some weekdays.

The house is just outside the village of Uzer. The house has two parts: the main house, lounge, TV room, kitchen, bedrooms, utility room and garage. You have access to the whole house. The TV Room connects to the "Gites" (your part and called "Gites" but it's only used for friends and family), which has one double bedroom, one bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom, so you can even come as a small family! French TV and Chromecast. WiFi etc. Uzer is in a beautiful part of France called Les Baronnies, in the foothills of the Pyrenees yet close enough to some large towns and several airports!

We have a very friendly cat but timid, and a Golden Retriever who will be 7 in November. She has a real sense of humour and is great company. We also have a docile horse with his pony friend and we need you to have had some experience with horses. Putting them in their stable if the weather is bad (not usually at that time of the year). The owner of the pony lives nearby and looks after them as well. Riding not included! There are several neighbours who will be around if needed. Apart from the dog, feeding the cat, and checking the horses, we want the house just looked after. There is a kitchen garden if that interests you and the grass will need a cut or two at that time of the year. Around us, there are plenty of things to do and some magnificent walks, several famous grottos, and the Pic du Midi to visit. We hope you take advantage of your stay here.

If coming from the UK we suggest Ryanair flights from London Stansted to Lourdes which is about 30 minutes from the house or to Toulouse (1.5hrs) with Ryanair or Easyjet. We'd prefer Lourdes.

To see where the village is situated on Google maps search for Uzer France (there are 2 Uzers)

If you are interested please contact us asap and we can chat by Messenger or Facetime (Apple)

What responsibilities will my house sitter have?

Apart from Zoe, feeding Titty the cat, and checking the horses (checking water and maybe giving them some hay), we just want the house looked after and a little gardening, would be useful.

Several neighbours will be around if needed. There are plenty of things to do and some magnificent walks, several famous grottos and as I said, the Pic du Midi to visit. The area where we live is a small hidden gem of the High-Pyrenees called "Les Baronnies" and has about 21 very small unspoiled villages. (Check it out on Google!) We hope you take advantage of your stay here.

We are a non-smoking house.

You will need a car when you are here but we can let you drive our Renault Captur.

We suggest Ryanair flights from London Stansted to LOURDES which is about 30 minutes from the house. Alternatively TOULOUSE (1.5hrs) with Ryanair and Easyjet and others. Pau airport is also near us, and Biarritz airport is a bit further away. We could pick you up from any of these airports.

What are the good features of my property and location?

We are in the country but 8 minutes from Bagneres de Bigorre, which has all the shops, supermarkets etc. This is a large house with excellent accommodation.  The house has two parts (connected) and the "Gite", which is only used for family and friends, has two double bedrooms so you can even come as a small family! French TV and Chromecast. WiFi etc. We are in a beautiful part of France called Les Baronnies, in the foothills of the Pyrenees yet close enough to large towns and airports!

What do potential house sitters need to consider before applying for this assignment?

Some basic experience with handling horses. (Not riding, grooming etc.) Please supply references. A car can be provided as above!

If you are interested please contact us asap and we can chat by Messenger (best) or Facetime (Apple)

“ A Wonderful Housesit ”

Sit Dates Oct-1-23 - Nov-15-23 Sitter magellon, Member Since Aug-25-10

We were so fortunate that Henry and Anne-Marie chose us to care for their beautiful property and lovely pets.  From the moment we arrived we felt very much at home thanks to their kindness and hospitality.  Zoe the dog welcomed us as though we were long lost friends and even shy Titti the cat became an evening hot water bottle on the sofa.  The surrounding country is incredibly beautiful and there are no shortages of mountain passes and beautiful villages to explore. We were very comfortable and enjoyed having our own independent part of the house. We would love to return if the chance arose.

“ The perfect sit ”

It doesn't get any better than this.  Zoe is a personable and friendly companion who knows all the best walks in the area and really enjoys going past to say hello to her mates.  Titty is a joy in the morning when she can't wait for you to sit down with a cuppa so she can get on your lap and get some cuddles.  The horses are both friendly and easy to manage.  The vegetable garden is bountiful and the courtyard garden cool and inviting.  Henry and Anne-Marie are the perfect hosts, friendly and welcoming while also providing great information to make the sit as comfortable and easy as possible.  It's a great location to explore the Pyrenees and a wonderful house to simply sit and enjoy with lovely companions.

We had a great time in the Pyrenees and can recommend a stay very much!

The house is setteled at the edge of a small village with a great view on the mountains. The surroundings are perfect for hiking. Inside it's tidy, clean and you will find everything you need. It's just lovely.

The animals are also just perfect. The dog needs to be cuddeld a lot!

Henry and Anne-Marie are very nice. We enjoyed talking and appreciate the hospitality!
