For 3 weeks, sitters can stay longer in guest bedroom | Short Medium Term

We are looking for a non-smoking house sitter or 2 sitters who can give attention to our two friendly male cats and feed them twice a day, although occasionally you could be away for one night and leave them dry food.  They enjoy being in the same room as people.

We travel yearly from the end of October for three weeks when my husband tours with the Stuttgarter Ballett.  Please keep us in mind if it doesn't work out this year.  Time every August is also a possibility.

We live in a beautiful, spacious, quiet 2-bedroom apartment on the second floor with balcony in Bad Cannstatt, the oldest and most populous of Stuttgart's districts, and one of the most historically significant towns in the area of Stuttgart.  The public transportation is great - it's an 8-minute walk to 2 S-Bahn lines or the U-Bahn.  With the S-Bahn you can get from the apartment to the Stuttgarter Hauptbahnhof in 15 minutes or by U-Bahn to the old center of Stuttgart in 21 minutes.  There is a grocery store within 5 minutes walking distance and a fancier one 12 minutes away with the U-Bahn.  The beautiful Kurpark of downtown Bad Cannstatt is 10 minutes walking distance from here. Bad Cannstatt is second only to Budapest in the number of thermal mineral baths.

Stuttgart is a delight to live in.  It's not too big - 600,000 people in the city so that you can get most anywhere in town by public transportation within 30 minutes. The downtown area and the Königstraße are always very active, more so than most American cities.  The topography is similar to Berkely, CA, with many hills, beautiful views, and abundant greenery.  There is all the culture you could want, high or low, and not very expensive.

We stayed put for our 6-week summer vacation and had a great time just exploring Stuttgart with self-guided tours and the state of Baden-Württemberg.  Day trips are very easy by train or rental car in the Stuttgart region or to Tübingen, Heidelberg, Mannheim, Lake Constance, the Black Forest, Baden-Baden, Freiburg, Ulm and more.  The Schwabian Alb borders metropolitan Stuttgart for hiking in nature, but there is plenty of nature everywhere in Stuttgart.  Paris is 3:15 from Stuttgart by train, Zurich 3:00, Munich 2:20, Strasbourg 1:30.  For tourism in Baden-Württemberg, see will leave one JahresTicketPlus public transportation ticket for you, which gives one person unlimited travel in the two main central zones.  All day on weekends and holidays, and weekdays after 7 p.m., you can travel and take another adult with you throughout the entire regional transportation zone at no extra charge.  During weekdays, if you would like to travel outside of zones 10 and 20, you only pay half price for the supplemental tickets.  The pass also gives discounts on car rentals.

If you would like, you (and your partner) are welcome to stay awhile before or after October 28 - November 18 in the guest bedroom.  We will gladly introduce you to a few of our multilingual friends in any case and give you as many travel tips as you like.  We hope to have two used bikes for your use by the end of October.

There is good internet in the apartment, a nice TV that will read any computer files you may have and an electronic keyboard.  There is a dishwasher and a washing machine, but we dry clothes on the balcony or in the bathroom.

The two cats named Sascha (the black one) and Dexter (the gray one) are aged 15 and 10.  They liked to be petted and brushed a little, and perhaps 5 minutes of playing with a toy per day.   Sascha, unfortunately, poops outside of the box in the bathroom, but the texture is manageable after having found the right combination of wet and dry food.  If Sascha is too noisy at night, the solution is to put him in his cage and then he stays quiet.  Dexter is a delight, practically a dog, but he doesn't have to go outside, except to hang out on the balcony.  Naturally, the litter box should be cleaned daily.  Some herbs and plants on the balcony might need watering.

Both cats get along with dogs if you bring yours.
