Maple Bay is in the heart of the Cowichan Valley, mid way between Victoria and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. We are a small rural community where everyone knows their neighbours. We have 2 pubs, a rowing club, yacht club, and a wellness center. Also close by is upscale Genoa Bay Cafe and on weekends an amazing Belgian bakery. Duncan has everything else you need only 15 minutes away.
There are plenty of hikes close by, one beginning just across the road. And a couple of world class mountain bike trails.
Our bright and sunny home is on the water overlooking Maple Bay and Saltspring Island. The main floor has the master bedroom and bath; large living room with pool table, bar, and wood burning fireplace; dining room with seating for 12; and kitchen/ family room with gas fireplace. Downstairs also has views of the ocean from every room including 2 bedrooms and an office. The gardens are beautiful with 3 decks and a terrace and hot tub. We also have kayaks that you are welcome to use. Maple Bay is quite rural so a vehicle is necessary. You are welcome to use our old Volvo during your stay but you will need to put insurance on it.
Getting to the island is via ferry or plane from Vancouver to either Victoria or Nanaimo or by float plane right into Maple Bay.
Basically we would like our home to be in the same or better condition than when we leave it. The garden will need leaves raked, etc.
You would be responsible for getting the mail on a regular basis and reviewing it in case there is something that needs our attention. You would also have to pay your own electric and propane bills, and cable tv if you need that. You would also need firewood if you choose to use the fireplace in the pool room. We will pay the Internet bill, the bill, and the first $100 of the electric bill. We also have a cabin on the water that we rent on so you would have to allow access to the laundry room and small downstairs kitchen for the BnB cleaners on change over days. They usually arrive between 11:00-11:30, have they’re own key, and use the downstairs back door. They have been working for us for 2 years and are quiet, respectful, honest, and trustworthy. There were an average of 3 guests/ month over the same 5 month period last year.
