This is an ideal setting for someone wanting to hole up and do some personal work, or someone looking for a place to take a break and do some local exploring. We are nestled in a "cove" between the Appalachian and Allegheny Mountains. We have over 250 secluded acres of forest and open hills, laced with springs, streams, and caves. Mother Earth News named our county one of the top ten alternative places to live in America. There are no stoplights, fast-food outlets, cinemas or shopping malls in the county. There are three houses on the property. We are looking for a responsible, mature adult or couple to live in our Guesthouse and look after the other buildings during the period of September 15 to December 15, perhaps continuing to March 15, 2019. There is also a possibility for staying on through the spring. This is the international headquarters for a volunteer organization in the environmental movement (interpretation-education-contemplation). When our international chair is traveling among our worldwide branches, the housesitter will need to pick up and forward the mail. We heat our buildings with wood-burning stoves and masonry heaters. In addition to keeping a fire going in the Guesthouse, the housesitter is responsbile for maintaining a fire in the main building to keep the pipes from freezing during cold weather. Ordinarily, this requires building a fire once or twice a day during the autumn, and three times a day during the winter. We are a no-smoking inside, no pets site. Sorry, this situation is not suitable for children. Although the housesitter must be in residence at night, there is much to see and do in these parts during the day.
