Aloha house-sitters/care-takers,

Here is a very affordable housing option for a quiet, responsible individual or couple. I have a small basic cabin suitable for one person or couple here on my three-acre ag parcel near Kapoho, 650 yards from ocean, near eastern tip of Hawaii Island. It's about a 45-min drive from here to Hilo Airport, about 20 min. drive to Pahoa. Nearest County bus stop is 3 miles. It is in a quiet, safe, private, and beautiful jungle setting. It will be rent free, in exchange for minimal care-taking chores: mainly grass mowing and plant care, no more than 7 hrs/ week. I’d like someone staying in and maintaining the cabin so that I can take time to travel and know that my property is well cared-for while I'm gone. I anticipate a 2024 March through September absence so will need a commitment to stay for at least that time period. Available January 5, no later than March 5. My last regular cabin occupants were a senior-citizen couple. They stayed for over seven  years. I'm 76 and the only one now living on the property.

You will need some experience care-taking/house-sitting, with references. You will need your own transportation (the road is good). You must be quiet, responsible, and drama-free. No drunks or illegal drug-use.

Cabin is self-sufficient, 100% off-grid, and basic, but pleasant and furnished. Solar 12-volt system with small AC inverter. Refrigerator and 2-burner propane stove. Tank-less propane hot water heater for shower. Catchment tank for running water, although recommend obtaining County or bottle water for drinking. Laundry sink and clothesline, but no washer/dryer. Has composting  toilet.

The cabin was part of a former commercial orchid farm. Former shadehouse area is now used for garden area where you are welcome to grow whatever. My house is a good 400 feet away from cabin (barely visible through the jungle vegetation) next to a pond with two ducks. You are welcome to share in the cacao, avocados, bananas, papaya, lilikoi, lemons, and more all growing here. Great opportunity to experience life in rural Hawaii rent free.

Mahalo.
