We are looking for a house sitter in late October/ early November who can look after two dogs, keep our house, and water our few house plants.
The House and Region
Our house is located in a rural area of Leduc County in Alberta, approximately 7 miles (11 kilometers) from the nearest town of Warburg. It is also within easy driving distance of Breton, Calmar, Thorsby, Leduc. Edmonton is 45 minutes away. There are a number of recreational opportunities nearby, including Pigeon Lake, which has several good beaches. Wabamun Lake has sailing opportunities. The North Saskatchewan River is popular for canoeing, fishing, and gold panning. If you are a cook who appreciates good, local, food, there is an easily accessible year-round indoor Farmers Market close to the outskirts of Edmonton, with exceptional selection.
Our house is a split level with large farm kitchen and dining room, full bathroom and loft with one bedroom and a half bath. The other side has a livingroom, bedroom, en suite bathroom and a basement. For the eclectic reader, we have a collection of thousands of books, located all through the house. We have wifi (but not super high speed), a flat screen television with Apple TV 4K and half a dozen streaming apps. Our property is 80 acres, with about 15 acres in natural bush and a small pond. Plenty of scope for wandering with the dogs.
The Dogs
Radar is the older, larger dog, and tends to be very laid back -- except when there are squirrels or tractors. Bandit, the younger, smaller dog, has excellent herding instincts and tends to treat all non-dogs as sheep. Our pattern is to feed the dogs in the morning, then let them roam freely during the day (they don't leave the property) and bring them inside at night. Bandit likes to sleep on the bed, Radar prefers the floor. Both dogs travel well if you want to take them adventuring with you. We have leashes for each dog and they are reasonably well behaved when on leash.
