My husband and I will be away for a weekend and need someone(s) to care for our 14 month-old dog named Pippin. We live on a mountain top in a beautiful and peaceful wooded location in SW Virginia not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway with a GORGEOUS view. Spring should be in full swing and lovely.
Pippin was born on Christmas Day 2022 and seems to be full grown now at about 50 lbs. He came from a rescue group. His mother was a Texas heeler (Australian cattle dog + Australian shepherd) and father, unknown. He is a good and happy dog and very sociable with people and other dogs. He has many toys and likes to play fetch (Frisbee!!), tug-o-war, and hide-n-seek. He also loves walks and hikes. He is housebroken and needs to go outside several times a day to do his business. Good news: you don't have to pick up his "big business" as he goes in the woods!
So far, he knows these commands: come, sit, stay, shake, down (=lie down), catch, roll over. Our property is wooded and secluded so he is off leash out doors as we are relaxing on the deck, doing outside chores, or ambling in the field across the road; fortunately he's not a roamer. However, for walks on the road or in public places like one of the local wineries, he needs to be on the leash. If you go on a hike, like at Rocky Knob off the Blue Ridge Parkway, he is fine off leash once you are no longer near the road since he does like to chase cars.
Our home was finished in 2019 and has 3 BR, each with a queen bed, plus a king in the dormer upstairs. We have an indoor "Endless Pool" where you can swim in place against a current or exercise. It's kept at 82 degrees, so it's not a hot tub..

You'll see that our home is quite comfortable, as well as in a beautiful location, with amenities like heated bathroom tile floors, hot water on demand, and good internet service with Starlink.

We depart on Thursday, April 18, 2024 and return on Sunday, April 21. You are welcome to spend a night before and after so we can have a proper hand-off.
We have successfully used House Carers once before. Our fingers are crossed hoping to find another good match. Please Rsvp soon, as this really will be a plum placement. Thanks for considering us.
