Atlantic beaches, mountain trails or Manhattan life? From our home in the vibrant, historic town of Morristown, NJ it’s all readily available, and you’ll have the flexibility to regularly spend a couple days at a time away from our home as well, if you choose to, in order to really make the most of your time here.
Walk 10 minutes to the many restaurants, bars and shops - mostly small, family-owned businesses- on “The Green”, our picturesque town square. It’s just another 10 minutes’ stroll to the train that runs 7 days a week – most days hourly – directly to mid-town Manhattan. Or walk 15 minutes from home in the other direction to tap into the Patriots Path, a 70+ mile trail system for hiking, biking and horsing. A revolutionary war town, Morristown is home to George Washington’s headquarters and Jockey Hollow National Park, his troops' encampment for the winter of . Also, interestingly and enjoyably, Morristown is home to the Seeing Eye! Enjoy watching the pups learn their new jobs around town - and then enjoy them, once fully trained, in turn training their new owners.
By car, there’s ample hiking of every degree of difficulty as close as 20 minutes away in multiple directions. Reach the Catskills in 90 minutes, the Adirondacks in 2.5 hours, the Poconos in an hour. Or head southeast and enjoy wide, sandy Atlantic beaches in as little as 45 minutes, or as long as hours if Cape May or Atlantic City is what you’re after. Our home is a piece of history as well, built in 1890 and owned by multiple generations of the same family until we purchased it in 2001. Fully renovated top to bottom, it’s a very comfortable 1600+ square feet with a true cook’s kitchen, 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths- including a brand new, spectacular third floor aerie from which you can watch both sunrise and sunset over Morristown’s historic rooftops and steeples. One small bedroom is a dedicated office, and another is partially set up with fitness equipment. Our ample back yard is uniquely private and has a large patio, lounge and dining furniture, as well as both a propane grill and a wood pellet smoker.
Our two cats, Mo and Eloise, are the heart of our home and it breaks our own hearts to leave them – but they will be much happier at home with you than bouncing around with us on our small-ish sailboat on Long Island Sound. They are well-behaved (just don’t leave your sandwich unattended……), and combine a love of attention and independent streaks that only cats can achieve. Eloise, 6, will immediately introduce herself and declare you her fast friend; Mo, 8, will wonder what fresh hell is being visited upon him…for about 72 hours, and then he’s your BFF also. But just from a little bit further away……
This is a house sit with very little effort required, as all yard maintainance is taken care of by our good friend and landscaper, and our house cleaner will visit (at no cost to you, of course) every two weeks – unless you prefer her not to. Keep the cats happy and healthy, the house in running order, and enjoy the many diverse benefits of life in vibrant Morristown!
