We have a trip planned to Illinois and Iowa partly for a class reunion and partly to visit friends and family.
We have 1 dog medium sized lab mix, Honey, and 1 cat Spike. Spike is pretty self sufficent as he has a cat door and can come and go as he pleases. He does not use a litter box and basically needs some belly rubs, some lap time, and to be fed twice a day.
Honey is about a year and a half and loves walks, although it is not necessary to take her on a walk and she loves to play ball in the back yard. She has a large fenced in back yard where she can run and play at will. She has a doggie door and enjoys the freedom of coming and going at will.
We live very near Smith Mountain Lake where we have enjoyed boating and kayaking. We do have an above ground swimming pool. This is a salt pool so easier on the skin! We also have a garden which will not need any work other than picking some of the veggies to eat.
We have 17 wooded acres with trails for walking. Honey enjoys walking in the woods too as well as venturiing out along the roads. We use her leash when she is outside of her back yard--she does ok on her leash, but still pulls some because she is so busy with all the new smells.
Our home is near the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway so there are beautiful places to hike and gorgeous scenery too.
We are located not too far from the small town of Rocky Mount and about 40 minutes from Roanoke.
In addition, if you wanted or needed to extend your visit for a day or two, we had an Air BnB in our home prior to Covid and you would be able to stay to do some sightseeing or hiking etc. at no charge for the room. We have not yet decided to re-open the Air BnB, but may at a later date.
