We live in Nevada County, the Heart of the Gold Country and home of the Empire Mine State Park, site of one of the largest, richest and longest operating gold mines in California. Our County Fairground has been declared California's most beautiful fairground. Grass Valley was voted one of the best Small Town Downtowns and our sister city, Nevada City, is on the National Register of Historic Places. We have theatre, arts and music. And our home is within a few minutes of all of the above.
We are looking for a house sitter who can care for our two small dogs for the month of August. Sonny is a dachshund terrier mix who is very friendly right away, especially if there is food involved! Darby is a little chihuahua who takes more time (usually 24 hours or so) to warm up. Then he's a love bug. Darby needs someone who can be calm and confident even when he jumps and barks. He has nipped; but mostly folks who are nervous around him and make movements that frighten him. Again, once he's used to you and loves you ... he really loves you. They are true members of our family and sleep with us in our king size bed and cuddle with us on the couch and recliner. They need to be walked twice a day and they have access to our small yard via a doggie door in between.
We live in a larger manufactured home in a senior mobile home park near the Nevada County Fairground (a place where they love to walk!). Our home is comfortable rather than fashionable with a covered front porch and a glider to watch the world go by while surrounded by beautiful roses and other greenery. Or sit in a comfortable recliner and watch cable television in our TV room.
Housekeeping is light, just keep things clean and tidy. We have a sprinkler system so the primary gardening is deadheading the lush rose bushes. Most everyone in the Park is friendly and there are lots of dog lovers.
As you can tell, we are primarily concerned about finding someone who will love and care for our boys, Sonny and Darby. But while you're here you will be able to enjoy the last days of Summer in a beautiful, historic setting with all the advantages of rural California.
