We are conveniently located in Temecula, California just 10 minutes east of old town, and surrounded by dining and shopping options within a 1-3 mile radius. We are both working in San Francisco and Los Angeles at the moment, and need someone to care for our home and one of our dogs who doesn't like city life. Ideally, we would like someone who can stay for at least several months and who would be comfortable with us coming home one or two weekends a month.
We have two dogs, a 25lb border collie mix named Butters and a 7lb Yorkie named Winifred (aka Winnie). Winnie will be staying with mom up in SF. Butters does better at home in Temecula.
Butters was a southern California rescue, and even after 12 years is still a bit nervous with strangers. But, ignoring him and letting him warm up at his own pace always seems to work. Dentastix and bacon snacks also help the process along. He loves going on long walks, but he's not a fan of other dogs (we're pretty sure he doesn't identify as a dog and thinks he's one of the humans). So, we keep our distance from other walkers when we're out.
Butters is pretty low maintenance. He gets fed twice a day (although he is ambivalent about breakfast) and is happy to wander the house and come and go in our large back yard. He can be left alone for 8-10 hours during the day with no problem. But, he definitely prefers someone home with him at night. Most likely he will sleep at the foot of the bed with you, and is likely to stay close to you if you're hanging out at the house during the day.
Our home has four bedrooms and an office, extremely high speed Internet, TVs in most rooms, and Google/Alexa speakers throughout. Our kitchen is well-equipped and there is lots of room to spread out.
We have bicycles, which you are welcome to use. We have a covered back patio with a table and chairs, as well as a comfy sofa and loungers. The gas grill works well for outdoor cooking, and we spend a lot of time outside. We have a beautiful pool and hot tub, as well.
We also have 30+ wineries within just a few miles from our house. Carlsbad and Oceanside beaches are just minutes away with easy access, and San Diego is just a little farther down the road. So, if you are an adventurous and patient pet lover, we look forward to hearing from you!
