My house/pet sitting experience here was absolutely the best! Divina, my new best furry friend was a delight - quite the character with lots of energy, antics and such a love-bug! She showed me all her favorite walking paths through some of the most beautiful hills & valleys. We cuddled on the couch at night while I read and she peacefully slept. Rosalie's house is so comfortable & charming with all the modern amenities you need. The views of the sunrise were spectacular. The backyard was a perfect place to read in the sunshine listening to the nearby horses whinning, the chickens clucking, bees buzzing and birds singing....in other words, so peaceful and beautiful. The little village is quaint, quiet, safe and so friendly. Rosalie introduced me to several neighbors and friends who speak English (unfortunately my Portuguese language skills are negligible) so I never felt alone. They were so generous in sharing their bounty of fresh eggs, lemons, grapefruit and avocados, as well as their wine, coffee, tea and company. Rosalie introduced me to her weekly yoga group and I got to practice yoga outdoors in the nice weather. I had use of a car so I explored the surrounding area and could get to the market for supplies. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Rosalie and Divina, the house, her neighbors and friends. Obrigada, Rosalie!

We had a terrific time taking care of Rosalie's home and cute dog Davina for over 6 weeks this spring. Rosalie met us at the bus station in Tomar and spent time showing us around the city, pointing out places we'd want to know about (food shopping, historic sites, car help if needed, etc.) during our stay. We then drove about 20 minutes up into the countryside to Cumes, where her home is located. Upon arrival, we were intrduced to two nieghborhood friends who quickly became our social contacts and close friends during our stay. The home is fully remodeled and featured a nice ensuite BR for us. On cooler nights the heat was comfortably supplied by a woodburning stove and two bottled gas heating units. There were terrific views across the valley behind the house. We were able to see the changes from late winter to early summer in the flora and it was lovely to watch. Davina is a smallish rescued street dog who quickly became a fast friend and close companion. She is protective of the property like an alert watchdog. Fortunately, Rosalie left us use of her VW so we could do some nearby sightseeing and travel to town for groceries and supplies, as the trip would be impossible without transportation. During our daily dog walks we met and did our best to try and communicate with the local Portuguese residents along the road. Although our language skills were greatly lacking, our attempts were well recieved and through basic hand gestures, we were able to communicate in a simple way, eliciting many smiles and gracious reactions. Their English language skills were much better than our Poruguese skills, for sure! Lovely neighbors! We recommend this sit for anyone seeking country solitude in a charming historic setting.
