We have a small three bedroom, two bath home surrounded by garden on a lovely island just a ferry ride away from Seattle, Washington. We are looking for a house sitter for our mini-farm from approximately September 15 to 26. As well as the garden, there are a chicken, two ducks and a cat who will need care. If you have experience with caring for gardens and farm animals, that's a plus!
The garden will need watering each morning if the weather is dry, the ducks and chicken need tending twice a day and also appreciate being let out into the yard if you are going to be at the house. We have too many eagles, coyotes and raccoons around to allow them to be outside their pen with no one home. You won't be expected to do anything for the garden except water if the weather is dry. This consists of setting up sprinklers on timers first thing in the morning. Minimum care for the poultry consists of opening their runs in the morning and closing them in the evening, changing the water once or twice a day, checking to make sure there is feed in the feeders, and adding fresh bedding to the poultry house as needed. (Takes less than an hour per day, total.) You will not need to clean out the poultry house during your stay. The cat is an indoor/outdoor cat. He's shy but will come in for food at night and during the day when the house is empty. He has his own entryway. He doesn't use a litter box, so no need to clean that either! Also, we have a couple of feeders for the wild birds that will need to be replenished daily.
You are welcome to harvest anything in the garden that you can use during your stay. The kitchen is fully equipped for what ever cooking you want to do and you are welcome to use the condiments that are on hand. This is a strictly no-smoking property. Absolutely NO smoking inside the house or in the yard or garden. If you have environmental sensitivities, well so do I, so the house is scent-free, cleaning supplies are non-toxic, and the house was built (20 years ago) with as few toxic components as possible.
