Hi! We run an eco-hostel in southwest Newfoundland and are looking for someone to look after our 5 cats while we go out west for two months this winter. The housesitter would have to want to sleep with our old cat Spud who is 19 and really loves cuddles. The other four are more independent and spend most of their time outdoors. The most important thing we are looking for in a house sitter is the need to love caring for cats.
The housesitter needs to respect the house rules and be responsible for shoveling the snow on the driveway if necessary. The hostel will be closed for the season so no need to worry about guests. Take care of the cats, give Spud cuddles, keep the house orderly and secure, take out the garbage, and water the house plants.
The Codroy Valley is very rural, quiet, and safe. It is also beautiful and surrounded by mountains and rivers. There is plenty of opportunity to go showshoeing, x-country skiing, snowmobiling, etc. Just down the road is a community centre where you can join in weekly activities such as darts on Sundays. Locals love welcoming newcomers, which is another attractive feature of where we live. There are a couple grocery stores and restaurants nearby. For solitary winters, you will hopefully take advantage of our eclectic library and in-house movie theatre.
Need to commit to staying here from late November to early January, the whole time no exceptions. You must know that this is RURAL NEWFOUNDLAND and not a place where you can walk down the road and get a coffee. You really should have a car and enjoy solitude. We've had artists house sit here in past winters and they found it to be a very productive creative space.
